This blog is part of a series based on my This Is Me campaign. It’s a campaign that celebrates you, what has shaped you, and who you are NOW. I’ve spent the last year photographing the courageous women that signed up to be part of it.
Honestly? It’s the most important work I have ever done.
I was absolutely blown away by how much these amazing women opened up to me. I’m going to share their incredible stories and photographs here in the hope that they can inspire you as much as they inspired me!

My understanding of beauty which I was growing up is that being fat meant you didn’t fit in or belong.
I believe you have to have confidence in yourself and all the things that make you uniquely you no matter what you look like.
I was adopted when I was a baby into a white family (I have African biological roots), I have been through so much as a child but these experiences have made me the strong woman that I am. Including escaping with just my children, their clothes, and a few toys to NZ after running from an abusive relationship.
I had to start over here and build my life from scratch
I’m a survivor.
I have also had many amazing experiences in my life, like volunteering in Africa, working in the cut-throat corporate world and writing an Amazon best-selling self-published novel.
I’m a hummingbird you see, I flit from here to there but I take with me and use experiences I’ve had on every flower I’ve visited.
We are more than just out body and out outward appearance, we are also mind and soul. If there are times you can’t see your outward beauty look harder, look inward there is always something to love about ourselves.
The shoot was so much fun! I loved the way you just put me at ease and I was able to dance my way through it.
During the shoot I felt liberated. Usually, I’m covering up my body but during the photoshoot I was taking layers off. That’s not something I’ve been comfortable with before.
I haven’t had an easy life. I suffer from anxiety and depression but through it all, I have this unique ability to bring joy to those around me.
Seeing the pictures and how you perfectly captured not only the lively vibrant person I am now but also the person I saw myself becoming and the stark realisation that I am actually that person right now… brought tears to my eyes. I felt powerful, beautiful, and inspired after the shoot and I would definitely recommend it to anyone of any age shape, or size.
